Successful investors never leave the market
Why do successful investors never shift their money from
stock funds to bond funds? Many of my readers are benefiting from a growing
market with no portfolio re-balancing. In their retirement years they may have
built an account balance of over $1 million so they can afford a market
correction of -20%. They have learned that the market regains its losses over
time. Look at the S&P 500 index
over a 5 year period. The market fell over 800 points in 2020 but regained its
climb by Aug of 2020. Again in 2022 the market index fell and has just now in
2024 regained its 4700 climb. Over the 5 years the market has gained over 83%.
Compared to investors who use market timing, my readers are far ahead in their
portfolio values. Some have stayed at 70% stock fund accumulation through the
years, since it provides them with a solid retirement fund they are happy with.
The stock market is the safest investment for the long term according to
Buffett. Also Fidelity
found that the most successful accounts were those of those who left their
accounts alone or were dead. That is why the wealthiest 10% of households now own 93%
of the stock market. The stock market makes them richer.

Why people don’t buy annuities
Many potential buyers like the guaranteed stream of income … for life. Current rates are 5-6% depending on guaranteed time. https://www.annuity.org/annuities/rates/. However, there are offsets that keep buyers from buying. First, your money is tied up for long periods. Second, the costs of some annuities exceed the rate of return. Third, most annuity payouts are reduced by inflation and costs over time so you get less as you get older. Fourth, there are better alternatives that a paid sales person will not mention. Annuities are one of the highest commission/fee products their firm offers. Wealthy folks don’t get stuck with the negative consequences of owning an annuity.

Why
do smart investors use low-cost funds/stocks from Vanguard?
The
average Vanguard mutual fund and ETF (exchange-traded fund) expense
ratio is 83% less than the industry average. You don't get a bill
explaining how much of your money went to pay fund and firm expenses. Those
costs are paid directly out of each fund's returns before you see them. Vanguard

and industry average of 0.54%, you save $3,218 over 10 years on $50,000
invested at 6%. Stay invested for 30 years and you could save $29,411 based on
costs of $6,431 at Vanguard compared with $35,842 at the industry average. You
could save over $32,000 for 10 years investment of $500,000. You must think long-term
costs because you don’t get a total bill each year. Warren Buffett recommends
